Job summary

SteelFab, Inc. in Charlotte, NC is seeking a CNC Programmer to prepare, nest, and optimize cutting programs for structural steel fabrication. You will translate shop drawings into efficient CNC programs, minimize material waste, and ensure parts meet specifications on our CNC machines.

The ideal candidate has hands-on nesting software experience and a solid understanding of bevel/weld-prep requirements for structural steel. This role supports continuous improvement in nesting efficiency.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and fabrication specs.
• Accurately translate designs into CNC programs for cutting machines.
• Maintain attention to detail and accuracy under production deadlines.
• Understand basic geometry and machining terminology for setups.

Responsibilities

• Import part geometry (DXF/DSTV/STP or similar) and prepare CNC programs.
• Nest parts efficiently to minimize scrap and maximize material yield.
• Program bevel cuts, copes, and geometry to job specs and standards.
• Review drawings to verify part accuracy before programming.
• Set and adjust cut parameters for different materials and thicknesses.
• Troubleshoot programming or nesting errors with shop floor.
• Collaborate with detailing and production teams for on-time releases.
• Maintain nest files, cut lists, and material usage records.
• Support continuous improvement in nesting efficiency and cut quality.
