Job summary

Cytonome, a biotechnology equipment developer, seeks an experienced CNC Programmer/Machinist for its Lexington, MA shop. The role focuses on designing, prototyping, and fabricating precision components for R&D and production-scale testing.

You will program, set up, and run 5-axis CNC mills and manual machines, translating lab concepts into manufacturable parts. Requires 5+ years of programming and setup, familiarity with 3D CAD, and the ability to create fixtures and maintain tight tolerances in

Qualifications

• 5+ years programming and setting up 5-axis CNC mills and manual mills; Haas experience is a plus.
• Developing machining strategy from scratch.
• Designing and building fixtures, jigs, and other work holding.
• Interpreting technical drawings and blueprints; collaborate with Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and fabricate custom components, fixtures, and assemblies for R&D and lab testing.
• Translate experimental concepts into manufacturable designs with engineers/scientists.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed drawings with tolerances.
• Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual machines to produce precision parts.
• Maintain and troubleshoot shop equipment; manage materials and tooling.

Cytonome has an immediate opening for an experienced, full-time CNC Programmer/Machinist!

Job Responsibilities:

• Design, prototype, and fabricate custom components, fixtures, and assemblies to support R&D, process development, and laboratory experimentation.
• Work directly with scientists, engineers, and research staff to translate experimental concepts into manufacturable designs.
• Create andmaintain3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings withappropriate tolerancesand material specifications.
• Program, set up, andoperateCNC and manual machining equipment to produce precision parts in metals and plastics.
• Perform fitting, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems, ensuring functionality and reliability.
• Iterate quickly on designs based on testing feedback or experimental outcomes.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot shop equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
• Manage material inventory, tooling, and consumables for the R&D machine shop.
• Ensure documentation and traceability of prototypes, part revisions, and design changes.
• Uphold safety and cleanliness standardsappropriatefor work supporting biotech research environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturability and support the transition of successful designs toward scaled production.
• Continuously evaluate and adopt new fabrication methods (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, modularfixturing) to expand internal prototyping capabilities.
• Provide technical consultation on mechanical design, materialselection, and fabrication feasibility during project planning phases.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE NECESSARY TO PERFORM POSITION EFFECTIVELY:

Educational Background:

• High school diploma or GED certificate, completion of a technical or associate degree program is a plus

Required experience:

• 5+ YearsProgrammingand setting up5-axis CNC millsand manual mills.Haas experienceisa plus
• Developing machining strategy from scratch
• Ordering all necessary materials and tooling
• Designing and building fixtures, jigs, and otherwork holding
• Multitasking and balancing a busy workload
• Completing tightlytolerancedwork

Other Requirements:

• Familiarity and skill with interpreting technical drawings and blueprints and willingness to work closely with Engineering team
• Understandingofmechanical assembly, fasteners, etc.
• Ability to work independently and closely follow directions is essential
• Capable of standing for extended periods of time
• Understanding ofmaterials and design considerations for biocompatibility, sterilization, and chemical resistance.
• Ability tolifta maximum of40 pounds for short periods of time
