Job summary

Miller Industries is seeking an Automation Programmer to program and maintain operating procedures for automation equipment and site fabrication systems, ensuring efficient production. You may support standardization initiatives and assist other facilities with automation projects as required.

Primary duties include maintaining records, developing and updating programming documentation, collaborating with engineering, and improving tooling. Travel to plants may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical training preferred or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
• Experience with automation equipment, robotics, and fabrication tech.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends when required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain operational records for automation equipment.
• Create and modify programs for automation equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to improve tooling and processes.
• Develop programming docs, operating procedures, and work instructions.
• Support standardization efforts for programming practices and docs.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
• Attend team meetings to help design future production capacities.
• Operate automated machines to test equipment and verify programming.
• Read blueprints and technical docs to understand tasks.
• Provide on-site programming support and technical assistance as capacity allows.

Summary:

The Automation Programmer is responsible for programming and maintaining operating procedures for automation equipment and site‑specific fabrication systems to ensure efficient and high‑quality part production. The Automation Programmer may support standardization initiatives and assist other facilities with automation projects as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain operational records regarding automation equipment.
• Create and modify programs for assigned automation equipment.
• Work in collaboration with engineering and operations to develop and improve tooling and automation processes.
• Develop and maintain programming documentation, operating procedures, and work instructions related to assigned automation equipment.
• Support department standardization efforts including programming practices, operating procedures, and automation documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
• Participate in designing and developing future production capacities by attending team meetings.
• Operate automated machines to test equipment and ensure proper programming techniques.
• Understand specifications of tasks and desired results by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, and related documentation.
• Support on‑site automation personnel with programming‑related issues and provide technical assistance related to assigned automation equipment when capacity and expertise allow.
• Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto machines to perform test runs.
• Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet requirements.
• Fully utilize and embrace all technology, including PCs, software programs, simulation software, and proprietary systems.
• Utilize offline programming and simulation software to minimize production downtime.
• Work a flexible schedule and travel for training as required.
• Some travel between plants may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of technical training, certifications, and relevant experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Experience with automation equipment, robotic systems, fabrication equipment, or related manufacturing technologies preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends when required.
