MATSYS, Inc. is seeking an entry-level CNC Operator who wants to learn a new trade!
The ideal candidate will be interested in and capable of learning to run manual and CNC lathes and/or mills alongside our team of high-performing scientists, engineers, and technicians at its Sterling, VA facility. The Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-quality parts and components according to blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. The CNC Operator will ensure the machines are running efficiently and learn to troubleshoot any issues that arise during production. Those successful in this position will be trained to become full CNC Machinists!

Description
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) to produce parts and products
- Load and unload raw materials and parts into machines, ensuring correct alignment and positioning
- Monitor machine performance during production to detect any potential issues or deviations from specifications
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC machines to ensure proper functioning and extend machine life
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor machine malfunctions and technical issues
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety protocols
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Document production data, including machine settings, production quantities, and quality checks
- Other duties as assigned
Required
- U.S. Citizenship (by virtue of contract requirements)
- 18+ years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 4+ years of general working experience (may substitute with relevant educational/training experience)
- Working Conditions
- The role requires working in a machine shop environment, often exposed to loud noises, moving machinery, and potential hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided
- May require working in shifts, depending on production schedules
- Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform repetitive movements
- Must be able to operate multiple machines at one time
Preferred
- 2+ years related experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience operating CNC machines
- Ability to inspect parts for dimensional compliance and machining quality
- Basic program editing experience
- Certification or Associates Degree in Machine Technology, Precision Machining, or CNC Operations
- Working knowledge of 5S and lean manufacturing techniques
