Job summary

BARNES is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for a first- or second-shift role in East Granby, CT. The position runs Monday to Friday, 3:30pm–12:00am with a 15% shift differential on the 2nd shift.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in aerospace/high-precision manufacturing, 3+ years operating multi-axis milling/turning machines, and strong mechanical and mathematical skills. You will work collaboratively to solve complex setup and running challenges.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in aerospace/high-precision manufacturing preferred.
  • 3+ years operating CNC milling/turning machines.
  • Experience setting up and changing over CNC jobs.
  • Strong mechanical ability and math skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Run 3, 4 and 5 axis milling and/or turning machines.
  • Operate multiple machines in manufacturing cells when feasible.
  • Work with hard metals (Inconel, Titanium, Stainless Steel).
  • Read English operation sheets and interpret symbols.
  • Use Fanuc controls and set offsets per program.
  • Load parts onto fixtures and use hoists to load parts.
  • Read and interpret CNC programs at the machine.
  • Read tool sheets and set up tools for jobs.
  • Use precision measuring tools (gauges, micrometers).
  • Work with Right-Angle Heads as needed and maintain tight tolerances.

Your Expertise
  • 5+ years of experience in an aerospace or high precision manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience operating CNC multi-axis Milling/Turning machine preferred.
  • Experience setting up and changing over jobs on CNC equipment.
  • Exceptional mechanical ability and strong mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving ability with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to solve complex issues.

Your Challenge
  • Ability to run 3, 4 and 5 axis milling and/or turning machines
  • Must be willing to run multiple machines simultaneously where possible/feasible as most machines are part of manufacturing cells/machining centers
  • Ability to work with hard metals such as Inconel, Titanium and Stainless Steel
  • Ability to read English and interpret symbols on operation sheets
  • Must be proficient in mathematics and be able to use a calculator
  • Ability to use Fanuc controls and make offsets as required by the program
  • Ability to load part onto a fixture
  • Ability to load parts and fixtures onto hoists and operate hoist to load part onto machine
  • Ability to read and interpret CNC Programs at the machine
  • Must be able to read tool sheets and set up tools for use on a job or part
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as gauges, swing gauges, calipers, and micrometers
  • Familiarity with operation of Right-Angle Heads
  • Must have Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing knowledge
  • Must possess the ability to work within tight tolerances such as thousandths
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
