Job summary

CoWorx Staffing Services is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Set-Up Technician / Operator in Westford, MA to set up and run CNC milling machines for precision components, ensuring adherence to specifications and schedules.

The role requires multiple years of set-up experience, familiarity with vertical machining centers including 5-axis, and strong measurement and inspection skills. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, high-mix environment with a focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of CNC Milling Set-Up experience in a manufacturing environment required.
• Experience with vertical machining centers, including 5-axis machining equipment.
• Knowledge of shop math, machining principles, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience working in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T requirements, and machining specifications.
• Strong knowledge of tooling, cutting conditions, feeds, speeds, and machining best practices.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC milling machines for production runs in accordance with manufacturing requirements and quality standards.
• Read and interpret blueprints, travelers, process sheets, and technical drawings to ensure accurate machine setup and part production.
• Load and verify CNC programs for repeat jobs, confirming proper revisions and setup requirements.
• Select, install, and secure tooling according to job specifications and setup instructions.
• Mount fixtures and workpieces using appropriate methods and equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
• Perform first-piece inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications. Collaborate with Quality Inspectors to ensure all parts meet customer, engineering, and quality requirements. Troubleshoot setup-related issues and communicate process improvement opportunities to management and production teams. Assist machine operators as needed and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
