Job summary

Edgewater Automation Llc is seeking a skilled CNC Operator Machinist to produce precision metal parts in an industrial setting. You will study blueprints, GD&T, and materials to develop machining plans and set up equipment for complex cuts.

You will interpret drawings, troubleshoot issues, perform quality checks, and maintain safe operations. The role requires experience with Haas/Hurco CNCs, SolidCam, and accurate measurement with precision tools.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree is required.
  • 5 years of experience as a CNC Machine Operator.
  • DOL Journeyman Certificate is preferred or required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machining plans by studying blueprints, engineering plans, materials and specifications.
  • Interpret parts drawings and communicate with engineers for changes.
  • Troubleshoot problems and adjust machines as needed.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Maintain safe operations and document shift activities.
  • Keep knowledge up-to-date with ongoing learning.

A skilled machinist uses sophisticated computer-controlled equipment to produce machined metal parts for industries that demand precision components. Some of these industries include automotive, aerospace & medical equipment. A CNC machinist develops machining plans by studying blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, machining parameters & interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)

CNC Operator Machinist Job Duties
  • CNC machinists must be able to develop their own program to perform the cuts and shapes required by the engineering blueprint. They will be required to upload computer software, and program the machine to make parts from various materials, such as metal and plastics.
  • Before beginning fabrication, the machinist must be able to interpret the parts design from blueprints. Communication with the engineers may be required to make any necessary changes.
  • CNC machinists also troubleshoot problems and make machine adjustments as needed. They also perform quality checks on finished products to make sure dimensions and other criteria conform to specifications.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities & reading technical publications.
CNC Operator Machinist Skills and Qualifications
  • Good working knowledge of basic math, trigonometry & geometry must be used in the shop environment.
  • Understanding of speeds & feeds of different types of cutting tools and inserts.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments to verify the quality of the products which have been machined through their machining efforts.
  • Solid understanding of software & multiple programming languages.
  • A CNC machinist must also be able to follow job instructions, comprehend specifications, and determine the correct machine setup on their own to achieve a quality final product .
  • A CNC machinist must be able to evaluate product quality and make programing adjustments as needed for quality products.
Desired Computer/Equipment Skills
  • Windows based operating systems
  • Haas and Hurco CNC experience preferred
  • SolidCam or similar programming software
Other Skills Required
  • Must be able to be a part of a self-directed work force requiring minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills are a must
  • Excellent organizational skills are a must
  • Excellent time management skills are a must
  • Must be able to be a good team member. Team work is a must.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in an industrial manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some Saturday work is also possible.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

  • High School Degree
  • 5 years of experience as a CNC Machine Operator
  • DOL Journeymen Certificate
