Job summary

Cassavant Machining, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ seeks CNC machinists to operate and optimize high-precision CNC cells. You will study blueprints, select fixtures and tools, set up programs, and monitor processes to ensure first-pass quality.

Key responsibilities include in-process inspections, documentation, and strict adherence to ITAR/compliance. Must be capable of 40+ hours weekly in a fast-paced aerospace/defense environment.

Qualifications

• Basic CNC control operation and maintenance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, MOTs, and GD&T tolerances.
• Set up tools, fixtures, and offsets for turning/milling operations.
• Perform in-process inspections and document results.

Responsibilities

• Review MOTs, blueprints, and sketches to determine operations.
• Select fixtures, tools, attachments, and programs required.
• Set up machines and verify tool offsets and program order.
• Monitor machine operation and adjust as needed for accuracy.
• Maintain inspection methods and records for each part.
• Complete paperwork (MOTs, DMRs, FAI) per procedures.
• Adhere to ITAR/compliance requirements and company policies.

• CNC Lathes
• CNC Mills
• 5 Axis + Machinist

Key Responsibilities:

• Review/study MOT’s, blueprints, and sketches to determine operations to be performed on part
• Determines fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, programs, and gages needed
• Aligns and secures holding fixture, installs cutting tools in proper holders and puts holder in machine and sets tools offsets
• Ensure the inspection department work flow is supporting production needs
• Loads programs corresponding to the operation into computer, checks tools and programs are in correct order of operation and edits program, if necessary
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required
• Sets up and maintains proper inspection method for all machined parts and communicates with coworkers where necessary for smooth transition of work shifts
• Performs in-process inspections
• Completes all paperwork including MOTs, DMRs, Non-Conforming Material requests, and First Article Inspection Forms in accordance to our procedures and policies
• Identifies and records non-conforming parts as discrepant
• Verifies quantity, customer part number and revision to the MOT and Blueprints
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, including ITAR and other compliance regulations

Basic Skills & Abilities:

• Basic use of CNC control, operation, and maintenance requirements
• Read and understand B/P's, including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, geometric dimensions, tolerance, and other standard nomenclature per customer, government, or industry standards
• Loads material/parts into machine and programs
• Daily maintenance on machine (checking fluid levels, cleaning out chips)
• In process inspection of parts
• Enter tool offsets to compensate for tool wear
• Replacement of worn or damaged tools (inserts, boring bars, end mills drills, etc.)
• Filling out the MOT and their Job Sheets properly
• Maintaining correct count of parts on the MOT for their operations
• Tagging hardware and recording discrepancies on proper paperwork for hardware known to the operator to be discrepant
• Recording inspection data at proper intervals per the Inspection Traveler or other company paperwork
• Communicate any job-related issues / questions (part feature, program, inspection, etc.) to lead person for resolution / clarification
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Report all machine malfunctions to the lead
• To read initial and date reject histories attached to MOT's

Physical Requirements:

• Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for the majority of the work shift, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. – exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or – exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Visual Acuity: Ability to detect surface defects, tool wear, or measurement deviations - good near vision for reading drawings, measurements, and digital readouts, and computer screens
• Must tolerate exposure to machining dust, oils, and moderate noise levels in a manufacturing environment
