Job summary

FLSmidth in Winfield, West Virginia is seeking a CNC Machinist Lead to oversee multi-axis machining operations in a heavy industry setting. You will read drawings, select tooling, mount workpieces, and proofread CNC programs while mentoring junior machinists.

The role requires at least 6 years in a general machine shop, fluent use of Mazak Mazatrol controls, Mastercam familiarity, and precise measurement with calipers and micrometers.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years in a general machine shop.
• Experience operating CNC lathes, mills, and drill presses.
• Strong understanding of mechanics, metallurgy, tolerances, tools, mathematics, layout, and machining procedures.
• Floor-level programming experience and a basic understanding of Mastercam.

Responsibilities

• Examine work orders and part drawings to determine machining requirements, dimensional specifications, setups, and operating parameters
• Mount workpieces in chucks, fixtures, between centers, or onto faceplates
• Proofread CNC programs to verify dimensions, feed rates, and machining speeds
• Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to feeds and speeds
• Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating repairs
• Ensure continuity between shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs
• Perform flame cutting or arc welding operations when required
• Demonstrate willingness to cross-train and perform additional job tasks beyond the primary assignment
• Train and assist Machinist I and II employees
• Update production boards and communicate with Leads and Managers from other departments to establish production priorities
