Job Overview
This advanced role requires a master-level machinist with extensive experience in CNC machining. The candidate should possess expert knowledge of machining practices, materials, tooling, and programming, including G-code input at the machine. Responsibilities include setting up, programming, and operating multiple complex CNC machines independently, as well as training and mentoring less experienced machinists.
Responsibilities
- Set up, program (including G-code input and conversational programming), and operate multiple CNC machines (3, 4, or 5-axis) with various controllers.
- Operate manual machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, jig borers, and drill presses without guidance.
- Assemble and repair parts, mechanisms, tools, and mechanical assemblies.
- Apply expert knowledge of machining practices, mechanics, shop mathematics, and metal properties.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, specifications, NC programs, and routings.
- Follow detailed instructions accurately.
- Verify workpieces against specifications using calibrated measuring instruments.
- Maintain close tolerances and achieve fine finishes.
- Produce parts within quality and cost standards.
- Design and fabricate complex fixtures as needed.
- Train and mentor less experienced machinists in setup, programming, and operation.
- Optimize machining processes for efficiency and quality.
Qualifications
- Expert knowledge of machinability of metals, plastics, fibers, and rubber.
- Expertise in cutting tools, speeds, and feeds.
- Master-level skills in machining practices and programming, including G-code and conversational methods.
- Ability to interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.
- Proven ability to train and mentor others.
Experience and Education
- Minimum of 10 years of machining experience, including at least 7 years in setup, programming, and operating multi-axis CNC machines.
Ability to obtain a secret security clearance may be required.
