V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a CNC Machinist II - 3rd Shift to join our team!

GENERAL SUMMARY

This highly advanced role requires a master-level machinist with extensive experience in all aspects of CNC machining. This individual possesses expert-level knowledge of machining practices, materials, tooling, and programming, including G-code input at the machine. They are capable of independently setting up, programming, and operating multiple complex CNC machines simultaneously. This role also includes training and mentoring less experienced machinists.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Independently sets up, programs (including G-code input at the machine/conversational programming), and operates multiple 3, 4, or 5-axis CNC machines with multiple controller combinations simultaneously.
  • Sets up and operates various manual machines (vertical and horizontal mills, manual lathes, grinders, jig bores, and drill presses) without guidance.
  • Assembles and repairs parts, mechanisms, tools, mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, or machines.
  • Applies expert-level knowledge of machining practices, mechanics, shop mathematics, and metal properties.
  • Interprets complex blueprints, sketches, specifications, NC programs, and detailed routings.
  • Follows detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Verifies conformance of workpieces to specifications using calibrated measuring instruments.
  • Maintains close tolerances and fine micro finishes.
  • Produces parts within established quality and cost parameters.
  • Designs and fabricates complex holding fixtures when required.
  • Trains and mentors less experienced machinists in CNC setup, programming, operation, and best practices.
  • Optimizes machining processes for efficiency and quality.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Expert-level knowledge of the machinability of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, fiber, and rubber materials.
  • Expert-level knowledge of various types of cutting tools, including the ability to determine optimal speeds and feeds.
  • Master-level knowledge and experience in machining practices, trade skills, and various programming methods, including G-code input at the machine/conversational programming.
  • Expert ability to visually read and interpret complex blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to follow detailed routings and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of machining experience, including at least 7 years of experience setting up, programming (including G-code input at the machine/conversational programming), and operating various multi-axis CNC machines.

Ability to obtain a secret security clearance may be required.
