Job summary

Vander-Bend is seeking a CNC Machinist I to operate 3-axis CNC vertical mills and 2-axis lathes in a full-time, permanent Swing Shift role on site. You will download programs, adjust tool offsets, and ensure parts meet specifications with GD&T and careful measurement.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of CNC experience, strong reading of blueprints and a solid grasp of feeds and speeds, while maintaining quality and safety standards on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• 2 years minimum machining experience, including CNC equipment.
• Proficient in feeds and speeds, materials and tooling.
• Familiar with surface finishes and callouts.
• Ability to read blueprints and travel directions in English.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
• Basic arithmetic including trigonometry.
• Strong attention to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and run 3-axis CNC vertical mills and 2-axis lathes.
• Download programs and input tool offsets on machines.
• Adjust feeds and speeds and modify on-machine programs as needed.
• Monitor tool wear and replace tools mid-job if needed.
• Perform second operation steps and inspect parts dimensionality.
• Log job status in ERP system and maintain records.
• Keep equipment and work area clean and perform basic maintenance.

About this Opportunity:

This position is the lowest post-trainee level CNC machining position at Vander-Bend & the primary duty of this role is to produce high quality machined parts in a cost-efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and Runs 3 axis CNC vertical mills and/or 2 axis lathes.
• Downloads programs and makes tool-offset entries on machine.
• Adjusts feeds and speeds and makes other minor on-machine program changes as needed, and conveys changes back to programming.
• Observes tool functioning and wear and replaces tools mid-job if needed.
• Performs 2nd operation steps (hardware installation etc) when requested.
• Performs dimensional and visual inspection of parts.
• Logs on and off jobs accurately in Visual ERP.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment as required (way lube, coolant).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years minimum machining experience, at least one of which must be on CNC equipment.
• Basic machining knowledge, including feeds and speeds, materials, tooling types and uses.
• "Everyday" familiarity with at least one of the following CNC controls: Fanuc, Mazak, Haas.
• Familiarity with surface finishes and callouts.
• Use of basic machining inspection tools including calipers, micrometer, height gage, pin gages, thread gages.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
• Ability to perform arithmetic computation, including basic trigonometry.
• Moderate ability to communicate verbally in English, to understand technical directions on blueprints, travelers, and computer screens in English, , and to create understandable written job status reports for shift changes
• Some assigned tasks for this position may involve "Light work" and some may involve "Medium Work" as defined below. The hiring authority may review the applicant's physical ability based on the specific tasks to be assigned:

1. Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
2. Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
