Job summary

ISSI Engineering & Machining in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a CNC Machinist I to join our precision machining team. You will set up and operate Haas VF3 mills and Okuma LU15 lathes, read engineering drawings, and verify tooling and fixtures to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.

ISSI Engineering & Machining is seeking a CNC Machinist I to join our precision machining team.

ISSI is a high-mix aerospace and precision machining job shop supporting a wide variety of work, from straightforward vise setups and established production jobs to expedited one-off parts and custom machining projects. Our machinists work closely with engineering, CAM programming, CMM programming, and quality to get jobs through the shop efficiently and correctly.

What You’ll Do

• Set up, prove out, and operate CNC mills and lathes.
• Primarily work on Haas VF-3 3-axis mills and Okuma LU15 CNC lathes.
• Read and follow engineering drawings, setup information, tooling requirements, and work instructions.
• Install and verify fixtures, work holding, cutting tools, and raw material.
• Establish and verify work offsets and tool offsets and safely prove out new and existing CNC programs.
• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other standard inspection equipment.
• Read and understand engineering drawings, tolerances, and basic GD&T requirements.
• Recognize machining, tooling, setup, or quality issues and communicate them before they become larger problems.
• Work directly with experienced machinists, engineering, CAM programmers, CMM programmers, and quality personnel as needed.
• Follow established process-control practices so approved engineering and CAM data remain the master source for the machining process.
• Maintain accurate production and inspection documentation.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Minimum Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2-3 years of experience setting up and operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, or a combination of both.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Must provide basic personal precision inspection tools required for day-to-day inspection.
• Working knowledge of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, tool wear, workholding, and machining fundamentals.
• Ability to independently handle routine machining work.
• Ability to recognize when a process issue requires support from programming, engineering, quality, or a more experienced machinist.
• Strong attention to quality and detail.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
