Job summary

Ulysses in San Francisco is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our startup shop building parts for autonomous ocean robots. You’ll CAM in Fusion 360, run Haas mills and lathes, measure parts, and iteratively optimize setups for repeatable production.

You’ll design your own fixtures, collaborate with engineers for DFM feedback, and own the loop from CAM to first article to production. We value practical skills and the ability to move fast.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of hands-on CNC experience in a machine shop.
• Strong Fusion 360 CAM proficiency with toolpaths, feeds and speeds.
• Comfortable running Haas machines: setups, offsets, tool library.
• Solid metrology fundamentals with calipers, micrometers, indicators.
• Ability to read GD&T and interpret datums, position and profile.
• Autonomous, startup-friendly mindset with quick learning ability.

Responsibilities

• CAM the job in Fusion 360 and build toolpaths.
• 3-axis and 5-axis milling and turning with proper tooling and fixturing.
• Set up, prove out, and run Haas machines with offsets and coordinates.
• Inspect and qualify parts; own first article inspection.
• Close the loop by adjusting offsets and toolpaths based on measurements.
• Design and build fixtures/workholding for one-offs and repeatable production.
• Collaborate with engineers for DFM feedback to production‑ready parts.
• Maintain shop readiness: maintenance, stock, coolant, organization.
• Help develop processes, documentation, and quality practices as we scale.
