Job description

The CNC Machinist will produce complex aluminum parts for the Aerospace and Defense industry at our Exeter, NH facility. This key role requires a detail-oriented mindset, a thorough understanding of machining high-quality parts, and a commitment to excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promote a culture of proactive safety.
• Set up and prove out machined components from start to finish, achieving first piece acceptance within required timeframes.
• Operate CNC milling machines and perform in-process inspections.
• Work from drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences.
• Set up and inspect first articles, aiming for at least 80% approval rate for quality verification.
• Change cutting tools and adjust workpiece positions during machining.
• Install cutting tools and work-holding devices suitable for the stock size.
• Operate and adjust machines to conform parts to specifications and time standards.
• Make necessary setup adjustments during operations to maintain accuracy.
• Ensure secondary setups are complete.
• Detect and report equipment issues, unsafe conditions, and variances from standards.
• Train and monitor operators after first article verification.
• Operate multiple CNC machines as needed.
• Perform secondary operations using various tools (files, drill presses, sanders).
• Assist in inspection processes, utilizing proper tools and gauges.
• Ensure parts meet quality standards before passing to subsequent processes.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and the facility.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 5 years of CNC setup experience.
• At least 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
• Mandatory experience with 4th axis machining.
• Experience with prototyping and first piece development is a plus.
• Ability to operate and set up all CNC machines in the department.
• Understanding and ability to modify basic CNC programs.
• Capability to fabricate fixtures and jigs.
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
