Job description

Starting pay $22.00 an hour plus/based on experience.

Position Summary

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as 3, 4, 5 axis CNC machines, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures and certify/test product. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Follow general company and corporate policies and procedures.
  2. Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  3. Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpieces as guides for machining.
  4. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, routers, and grinders.
  5. Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or input commands for computerized machine control media.
  6. Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as needed.
  7. Verify conformance of finished work to specifications.
  8. Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy.
  9. Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies.
  10. Verify dimensions and alignment of assemblies.
  11. Install replacement parts and test operation to ensure functionality.
  12. Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  13. Report to work on time, maintain good attendance, follow instructions, interact well with co-workers, and adhere to work rules and procedures.
  14. Participate in cross-training across departments.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry into manufacturing software and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and write English, interpret instructions, manuals, and documents.
  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches, and engineering drawings.
