Job summary

Bombardier Transportation GmbH in Wichita seeks an experienced machinist to join our precision shop. You will verify quantities, inspect parts, and assist with setup and procedures to meet engineering specs.

You will read drawings, calculate dimensions, and use micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure tight tolerances. The role involves setting up tools, monitoring cutting parameters, finishing parts by hand, and maintaining blueprints and documents for the shop.

Qualifications

• 3 years diversified machine shop experience or equivalent technical training.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documents.
• Ability to calculate dimensional information for machining parts.
• Ability to operate and interpret precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
• Ability to use simple or compound sine tools.

Responsibilities

• Verify quantity and material type are correct and all prior inspection points stamped.
• Verify engineering/shop documents are obtained to perform work orders.
• Assist with planning machining procedures and set up machine and part(s).
• Set up and/or verify cutting tools per machine requirements.
• Perform machining operations (boring, drilling, milling, tapping, threading) to tolerances per specs.
• Monitor feeds, speeds, and tool wear; adjust equipment, tools, and parts as needed.
• Finish machined parts using hand tools.
• Verify parts are within tolerances and make adjustments.
• Maintain documents, shop aids, and blueprints for applicable machines.

• Adhere to General Work Requirements
• Verify quantity and material type are correct and all prior inspection points have been stamped
• Verify all engineering and shop documents have been obtained to perform the necessary work order
• Assist with planning machining procedures and set-up machine and part(s)
• Set-up and/or verify cutting tools per machine requirements
• Perform a variety of machining operations, for example, boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading on raw material to produce machined part(s) to tolerances and dimensions in accordance with engineering specifications
• Monitor feeds, spindle speeds, and tool wear during machining process and make adjustments to equipment, tools, and/or part(s) as required
• Finish machined part(s) using various hand tools
• Verify part is within specified tolerances and dimensions per engineering specifications and make further adjustments as required
• Maintain existing documents, shop aid tools, and blueprints for applicable machines and equipment

How to thrive in this role?

• You typically have 3 years diversified machine shop experience and/or equivalent technical training or course work in machining or a related field
• You have ability to read and interpret engineering documents
