Job summary

Skilled Manufacturing Inc. in Traverse City, MI, is seeking a CNC Machinist to operate CNC machines and machining centers, fabricating precision parts per engineering specs.

You will read blueprints, apply GD&T, and verify conformance with handheld tools, often running multiple units and documenting data accurately. Expect a climate-controlled shop, 1st shift Friday–Sunday and 2nd shift Friday–Sunday, with a $2000 retention bonus for eligible employees and a comprehensive benefits package

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma/GED or graduation from a certified technical school.
• Must read and interpret drawings and engineering/manufacturing drawings with GD&T.
• Must be able to communicate in English (oral and written).
• 3–5 years of related CNC machining experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
• Must be able to read and interpret routers and use basic math.

CNC Machinist

This position is responsible for operating CNC machines and machining centers to fabricate precision parts per engineering specifications. Working knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with precision measuring tools are required. The ability to read blueprint specifications and check parts for conformance is required. Operators may run more than one unit simultaneously.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Uses tools such as edge finders, indicators, and probes to find machine work offsets
• Runs parts that meet engineering specifications without supervision
• Reads, understands, and interprets engineering and manufacturing drawings with working knowledge of GD&T
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and informs the lead person of discrepancies
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using standard measuring tools
• Learns and can recognize machine deviation versus cutter or holding problems, and informs supervisor
• Thoroughly inspects the first part run with mid to high level of complexity
• Meets job standard times consistently and communicates when not in conformance
• Ensure part count and data entry is accurate and correct on a consistent basis
• Accurately complete and maintain all paperwork
• Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures
• Can solve routine problems and demonstrates some advanced problem-solving ability
• Communicates discrepancies, non-conformances, and deviations to the supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Excellent and/or correctable vision
• Ability to accomplish tasks and follow directions without deviation from procedures
• Requires a high school diploma/GED or graduation from a certified technical school
• Must be highly motivated and able to work independently with strong attention to detail
• 3 to 5 years of related experience preferred
• Must be able to use the English language and be able to communicate orally and in writing (basic oral instructions, simple written memos, and instructions)
• Must be able to read and interpret drawings, follow routers, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use essential handheld measuring tools

Climate-controlled clean production environment. In this position, you are primarily standing with an option of sitting throughout the shift.
