Job summary

Pro-Type Industries seeks a dedicated Machinist CNC Programmer to develop CAM programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills and lathes. You’ll optimize processes, tooling, and setups to produce precise components for aerospace, military, and other industries.

The role emphasizes independent work, quality focus, and collaboration with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to meet schedule and quality goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Previous CNC programming experience in precision metal manufacturing.
• Strong proficiency with Mastercam or similar CAM software.
• Experience programming 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC mills; lathes preferred.
• Solid understanding of GD&T and reading engineering drawings.
• Hands-on machining experience; understand how programming affects machine operation.
• Ability to read blueprints and 3D models (SolidWorks or equivalents).
• Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

technical or vocational training in machining, CNC programming, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.Must be at least 18 years of age.Previous experience programming CNC equipment in a precision metal manufacturing environment.Strong proficiency with Mastercam or comparable CAM programming software.Experience programming 3-, 4-, and/or 5-axis CNC mills.Experience programming CNC lathes/turning centers preferred.Strong working knowledge of CNC mill and lathe setup and operation.Hands-on machining experience with the ability to understand how programming decisions affect actual machine operation.Knowledge of cutting tools, tool selection, speeds and feeds, workholding, fixtures, machining sequences, and manufacturing processes.Experience with manual machining equipment is preferred.Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and 3D models.Strong working knowledge and practical application of GD&T.Proficiency with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software.Ability to use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools.Ability to troubleshoot machining problems involving programs, tooling, workholding, dimensions, surface finish, and machine performance.Ability to develop clear setup instructions and effectively communicate technical information to CNC Operators and other production personnel.Strong mathematical, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.Ability to manage multiple programming and production priorities in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Machine Shop, Engineering, Quality, and Production personnel.Experience in an aerospace, defense, or AS9100-certified manufacturing environment preferred.Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned schedules and overtime when required.Ability to stand for extended periods, including a full production shift, as required.Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.You should be proficient in:CNC ProgrammingAerospace ManufacturingMachines & technologies you'll use:CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC)
