Job summary

Elgen Staffing is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist in Hampton, VA to set up and operate CNC machines and related tooling. You will interpret engineering drawings and specifications, select tooling and parameters, and inspect finished parts with precision measurement tools to ensure tight tolerances.

The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with supervisors, programmers and quality personnel to meet production goals while maintaining safety

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and other machine tools used to manufacture precision components.
• Review and interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications and work instructions.
• Determine tooling, speeds, feeds and machining methods per material and job.
• Install tooling and workholding; verify before machining operations.
• Perform machine setups and adjustments to achieve tolerances.
• Monitor operations and adjust to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
• Use micrometers, calipers and height gauges to verify conformance.
• Perform in-process inspections to ensure quality requirements.
• Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, tooling wear, or machine problems.
• Stop work if issues affect quality; notify supervisor or Quality.
• Maintain machine and work area cleanliness and preventive maintenance.
• Document production and inspection records; collaborate with teams to resolve issues.
• Handle materials and components to prevent damage and maintain integrity.
• Follow all safety procedures and manufacturing processes.

Job description

Our client, a prestigious, nationwide, law firm dedicated to providing legal services to financial institutions, has an immediate need for an experienced CNC Machinist, to join their winning team in Hampton.

Our candidate of choice will be responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to manufacture high-quality precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and production requirements. This position requires strong machining knowledge, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to independently identify and resolve machining issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set up and operate CNC and other machine tools used to manufacture precision components.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, specifications, work instructions, and other technical documentation before beginning work.
• Determine appropriate tooling, cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining methods based on material, machine capabilities, and job requirements.
• Properly install and verify tooling and workholding prior to machining operations.
• Perform machine setups and adjustments necessary to achieve required dimensions and tolerances.
• Monitor machining operations and make appropriate adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and production efficiency.
• Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools, to verify conformance to specifications.
• Perform in-process inspections and verify completed parts meet applicable dimensional and quality requirements.
• Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, including dimensional discrepancies, tooling problems, tool wear, machine performance issues, and other production concerns.
• Stop work and notify the appropriate supervisor or Quality representative when a condition is identified that could affect product quality or compliance.
• Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance and promptly report mechanical or equipment concerns.
• Maintain accurate production, inspection, and job-related documentation as required.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, programmers, engineering, Quality, and other machinists to resolve manufacturing issues and achieve production goals.
• Handle materials, tooling, equipment, and finished components in a manner that prevents damage and maintains product integrity.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
• Follow all Company safety requirements, procedures, and established manufacturing processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong knowledge of machining processes, machine tools, cutting tools, workholding, and manufacturing methods.
• Ability to independently set up and operate machine tools.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Strong working knowledge of precision measurement and inspection equipment.
• Ability to recognize dimensional or machining problems and make appropriate corrections.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to maintain close attention to detail while consistently producing accurate work.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, programmers, engineers, Quality personnel, and coworkers.
• Ability to manage assigned work efficiently and meet established production schedules and deadlines.
• Commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Experience operating CNC machining equipment.
• Basic understanding of CNC programming and the ability to make appropriate machine or program adjustments within the employee’s level of authorization.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and its relationship to CNC machining processes.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills involving tooling, machine conditions, workholding, or machining processes.
• NIMS or comparable machining certification.
