Job Description: CNC Setup Machinist

C/A Design, Inc., part of the Heico Companies, is a leader in the brazing industry, providing innovative cooling solutions with a focus on protecting the Warfighter. Our new Exeter facility, opening in Summer 2024, is setting new standards in precision manufacturing. Join us!

We are seeking a CNC Setup Machinist responsible for producing complex aluminum parts for the Aerospace and Defense industry. The role requires a commitment to our culture of honesty, integrity, and quality, and involves working in a state-of-the-art environment.

Shifts Available:
  • 1st shift: M - F, 5 x 8-hour shifts, 7AM - 3:30PM
  • 2nd shift: M - Th, 4 x 10-hour shifts, +20% shift differential
  • Weekend shift: Fr - Sun, 3 x 12-hour shifts, +25% differential (36 hours paid for 40!)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote a culture of proactive safety.
  • Set up and prove out machined components from start to finish, ensuring first piece acceptance within time constraints.
  • Operate CNC milling machines and perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and Tesa-Hite.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work from drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences.
  • Set up and inspect first article parts, aiming for an 80% approval rate for quality verification.
  • Change cutting tools and adjust workpiece positions during machining.
  • Install tools and work-holding devices suitable for the stock size.
  • Operate and adjust machines to meet specifications and time standards.
  • Make adjustments during operations to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Complete secondary setups as required.
  • Report equipment issues and operational anomalies.
  • Train and monitor operators on machine operation after first article verification.
  • Run multiple CNC machines as assigned.
  • Perform secondary operations using various tools and machines.
  • Assist with dimension inspections, ensuring quality before parts proceed to next stages.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and uphold housekeeping standards.
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC setup experience.
  • At least 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mandatory experience with 4th axis machining.
  • Experience with prototyping and first piece development (a plus).
  • Ability to operate and set up all CNC machines in the department.
  • Understanding and ability to modify basic CNC programs.
  • Capability to create fixtures and jigs.
  • Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
