Northeastern University in Boston seeks a CNC Machinist & Programmer to support teaching, research, and student projects by fabricating components with manual and CNC tools. The role requires strong machining, CAD/CAM skills, and mentoring of students.
You will set up machines, maintain equipment, order supplies, and collaborate with Capstone teams and faculty to ensure parts meet specs and timelines. Occasional Saturdays may be required.
The CNC Machinist supports teaching, research, and student project activities within the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) by providing high-quality machining and fabrication services. This position is responsible for fabricating metal and polymer components using both manual and CNC/NC machine tools in support of Capstone design teams, student activity groups, research faculty, and instructional needs. The role requires the application of industry-standard machining practices to ensure that all parts meet required quality, tolerance, and performance specifications. In addition to fabrication, the CNC Machinist & Programmer maintains machining equipment, coordinates equipment acquisition, supervises student workers, and provides technical guidance and mentoring to students on manufacturability and part design. This position plays a critical role in supporting hands‑on learning, research productivity, and shop operations within the department.

Expected Hiring Range: $29.00 - $40.96 With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
