Job Description:

Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and (CNC) Numerical Control machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine specifications and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements.
  2. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  3. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  4. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  5. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  6. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  7. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  8. Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of the unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  9. Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  10. Must understand the KMT Waterjet Quality Management System and how it relates to this position. Also ensure that all responsibilities relating to KMT Waterjet QMS and ISO are fulfilled.
  11. Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Training:

  • High school graduate or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of two (2) years machine operations experience and/or enrollment and completion of apprentice program.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures, amounts, and mathematical drawings and prints.
