Job summary

Workstream is seeking an experienced CNC Machine Setup Lead in Ohio to set up machines from blueprint to production and mentor a team of machinists. The role demands hands-on leadership, independent problem solving, and active participation in tooling selection and process improvements.

You will troubleshoot programming and machining issues, read blueprints, and ensure parts meet specifications. The ideal candidate leads by example and drives efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience setting up CNC machines from blueprint to production.
• Ability to troubleshoot independently.
• Proficient in tooling, offsets, speeds & feeds.
• Experience with measurement tools such as micrometers/calipers.
• Able to train other machinists and operators.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC machines from blueprint to production
• Perform job changeovers, tooling changes, offsets, and adjustments
• Edit and modify CNC programs as needed
• Select proper tooling, inserts, speeds and feeds
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and dimensional problems
• Diagnose issues such as tool wear, chatter, finishes, and alarms
• Inspect first pieces and production parts with precision measuring equipment
• Read blueprints and tolerances
• Help reduce setup times and improve processes
• Assist and train other machinists and operators
• Monitor jobs for quality and production consistency
• Identify machine and equipment issues before downtime
• Work with Engineering to ensure parts meet specs
• Assist with routine machine maintenance
• Maintain clean, safe work area

CNC Machine Setup Lead

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: Based on experience

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced CNC Machine Setup Lead who can set up machines, troubleshoot problems, edit programs, and help keep production running efficiently.

The right person will be a hands-on leader who can work independently and serve as a technical resource for other machinists and operators.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up CNC machines from blueprint to production
• Perform job changeovers, tooling changes, offsets, and adjustments
• Edit and modify CNC programs as needed
• Select proper tooling, inserts, speeds, and feeds
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and dimensional problems
• Diagnose issues such as tool wear, chatter, poor finishes, and machine alarms
• Inspect first pieces and production parts using precision measuring equipment
• Read blueprints and understand tolerances and specifications
• Help reduce setup times and improve machining processes
• Assist and train other machinists and operators
• Monitor jobs to ensure quality and consistent production
• Help identify machine and equipment issues before they cause downtime
• Work closely with Engineering to ensure parts are within specifications
• Assist with routine machine maintenance when needed
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

Qualifications

• Strong CNC machine setup and operating experience
• Ability to take a job from blueprint through setup and production
• CNC programming and program-editing experienceStrong knowledge of tooling, offsets, speeds and feeds, and workholding
• Ability to troubleshoot problems independently
• Experience using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other measuring equipment
• Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and make production decisions
• Ability to assist and train other employees
• Work well with others

Preferred Experience

• CNC machine Setup Machinist
• Lead Machinist or CNC Lead
• CNC programming and troubleshooting
• Experience with Haas mills & lathes
• Experience with horizontal saws
• Machine troubleshooting and basic maintenance
• Process improvement and reducing setup times
• Training or mentoring other machinists
