Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a skilled CNC Machine Repair Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize CNC tools and related equipment. You’ll diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control issues to minimize downtime and boost reliability.

The role requires reading schematics and drawings, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with maintenance and operations teams. OSHA-trained candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years troubleshooting and repairing CNC machine tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and machine drawings.
  • Experience with Okuma and Fanuc controls.
  • OSHA safety training or equivalent certifications.

Job description

Overview

The CNC Machine Repair Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of CNC machine tools and related manufacturing equipment. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports safe and efficient production operations. The technician works closely with manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance teams to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair CNC machine malfunctions, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and related manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot CNC controls, servo drives, motors, sensors, and machine automation systems.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals to identify and resolve equipment problems.
  • Install, align, calibrate, and test all machinery/equipment to meet manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
  • Inspect machine components and replace worn or defective parts.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and equipment documentation.
  • Collaborate with operators, engineers, and supervisors to improve machine performance and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in training machine operators on proper equipment care and basic troubleshooting procedures.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and purchasing teams to identify replacement part requirements, provide detailed technical information, and recommend components necessary to support efficient CNC machine repairs.

Experience & Education
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical degree, certificate, or equivalent experience in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing CNC machine tools
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and machine drawings
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and diagnostic tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting Okuma, Fanuc, and other major CNC machine control systems
  • PLC troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and robotics
  • OSHA safety training or equivalent certifications
  • CNC programming knowledge
Working Conditions
  • Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
  • Constant exposure to moderate noise
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to work any shift including weekends and holidays if scheduled
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
  • Ability to work occasional overtime and respond to emergency maintenance needs when required
