Position Summary

The CNC Machine Operator I will operate CNC machines on low to medium complexity components using automated and manual equipment to meet customer needs. This entry-level position requires prior machining experience, technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate at least one type of CNC equipment, including secondary operations. The role involves working independently and as part of a team with internal members, leads, supervisors, and quality personnel.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Independently load parts and operate a minimum of one type of CNC equipment.
  2. Complete operational processes, checklists, control plans, and procedures as required.
  3. Identify and assemble cutting tools and tool holder assemblies based on process documentation.
  4. Understand tool wear differences and learn to identify them.
  5. Identify the correct start line in the program.
  6. Gain basic knowledge of M codes.
  7. Inspect machined parts for quality, including surface finish and missing features.
  8. Perform basic troubleshooting of machines with assistance and escalate issues as needed.
  9. Perform inspection measurements using hand tools and coordinate measuring machines (CMM, Equator).
  10. Learn to read CMM reports and adjust parts accordingly.
  11. Complete assigned tasks promptly.
  12. Participate in 5S workplace organization activities and maintain a clean, organized area.
  13. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  14. Work in other areas or facilities as needed.
  15. Work overtime or alternate shifts if required.
  16. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & Skills
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to set tool height with assistance.
  • Typically requires 90 days as a CNC Trainee or 1 year of CNC operator experience.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Some experience reading technical drawings is helpful.
  • Ability to understand work instructions in English.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Basic interpretation of technical drawings for inspection purposes.
Working Conditions
  • Perform repetitive tasks regularly.
  • Primarily standing (over 90% of shift), with breaks for lunch.
  • Shifts of 8, 10, or 12 hours.
  • Exposure to typical manufacturing environment, including frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, and repetitive motions.
  • Proficient fine motor skills required for handling tools and fixtures.
  • Visual acuity for close and distant vision, peripheral and depth perception.
  • Wear PPE as required and follow EH&S and security protocols.
