Job summary

A leading manufacturing company in San Antonio is seeking a CNC operator to manage and program CNC machines for precision part production. Job DescriptionJob Description

Operates and programs computer numerical control (CNC) machine that shapes complex pipe fittings from plastic. Position requires continual presence at the plant to perform role.

Essential Functions:

  • Full set up and basic editing of programs.
  • Identify, mount and change out proper tooling.
  • Change out of jaws and masters.
  • Verify proper set up of program and prove out to ensure safe machining of part.
  • Deploy predetermined programs for cutting parts based on job orders.
  • Rework parts, make offsets, complete clean up and deviations.
  • Measure and mark dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
  • Inspect work pieces throughout a production run.
  • Clean and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on machines, tooling and parts. Inspect cutting tools for sharpness and usability.
  • Study sample parts to determine dimensions of finished work pieces and CNC equipment set up requirements.
  • Detect malfunctions using precision measuring instruments such as calipers.
  • Communicate with supervisors to resolve machining or quality issues.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in a relevant manufacturing environment or a completed training program.
  • Two years of experience in a relevant manufacturing environment or a completed training program and operating lathes and mills.
  • Preferable experience in Okuma

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of general operations of CNC machine to include proper set up of jaws and tightening of part.
  • Basic knowledge of FANUC controls.
  • Ability to read measuring tools such as measuring tape, pie tape and calipers.
  • Ability to read and understand prints, drawings.
  • Ability to detect defects with machining.
  • Basic math skills that include geometry and trigonometry to calculate material fabrication.

Physical Conditions:

Position requires constant standing, kneeling, raising of arms to exercise control of machine, and climbing to gauge progress of cutting. Occasional lifting of up to 50lbs. Exposure to high temperature in facility. Able to lift heavy equipment using hoists and forklifts. Able to stand for long periods and be adaptable to a changing work environment as well. Open to being exposed to noise, fumes and varying temperatures. Able to perform repetitive motions and must have strong finger dexterity. Overtime may be required on occasion.
