CalTek Staffing is seeking a Level 3 Machinist to set up, program, and operate horizontal boring mills and horizontal machining centers to produce precision components per engineering drawings and specifications. The role works with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource for less experienced machinists.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years CNC machining experience, strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018, and proficiency with metrology tools such as

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including horizontal machining centers or horizontal boring mills.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds, speeds, tooling, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, height gauges.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate horizontal boring mills and CNC horizontal machining centers.
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018, work instructions, and technical specifications.
  • Select tooling, fixtures, and work-holding methods to ensure efficient machining operations.
  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs at the machine or through CAM generated code.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and verify dimensional accuracy using precision measuring equipment.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and quality issues to minimize downtime.
  • Perform complex machining operations involving tight tolerances and critical dimensions.
  • Monitor tool wear and make offset adjustments as required.

Level 3 Machinist (Horizontal Boring Mill / Horizontal Machining Center)

Position Summary The Level 3 Machinist is an experienced precision manufacturing professional responsible for setting up, programming, and operating horizontal boring mills and/or horizontal machining centers to produce high-quality components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements. This position works with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource for less experienced machinists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Setup and operate horizontal boring mills and CNC horizontal machining centers
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T(ASME Y14.5-2018), work instructions, and technical specifications.
  • Select tooling, fixtures, and work-holding methods to ensure efficient machining operations.
  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs at the machine or through CAM generated code.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and verify dimensional accuracy using precision measuring equipment.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including horizontal machining centers or horizontal boring mills.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds, speeds, tooling, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments including:
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • Bore gauges
    • Dial indicators
    • Height gauges
  • Ability to independently setup and prove out new jobs.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Journeyman Machinist certification or vocational training.
  • Experience with Fanuc or similar controls.
  • CAM programming experience in Mastercam.
  • Experience machining large weldments, castings, or aerospace/industrial components.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to safely operate cranes, hoists, and material-handling equipment.
