Position: CNC Lathe Machinist

Reports To: Director of Operations

Status: Non-Exempt

BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:

Programs, sets up and operates 2-axis computerized numerically controlled lathe to perform machining operations, such as turning, boring, threading, and facing, on workpieces, according to specifications, blueprints, tooling instructions, and knowledge of 2-axis CNC lathe procedures. Maintains a high standard of product and productivity with minimal supervision.

ADDITIONAL GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

1. Evaluate blueprint and plan sequence for production.
2. As required, programs or creates programs to produce designated parts.
3. Installs holding device and any required tooling.
4. Checks and adjusts feeds and speeds to ensure optimum usage/efficiency.
5. Proactive in cycle reduction on a continuous basis.
6. Changes worn cutting tools when necessary.
7. Sets work piece coordinates.
8. Obtains first-run work piece and verifies dimensional tolerances.
9. Gets check and sign-off from Inspection.
10. Keeps records as required.

Trains other workers. Serves as consultation resource for other workers in the department. Observes all safety regulations. Other duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to set up and run 2-axis CNC Lathe.
2. Ability to run and hold tolerances of .0005 on 2-axis CNC Lathe.
3. Ability to read and interpret control console.
4. Full knowledge of 2-axis CNC Lathe procedures.
5. Ability to program and edit 2-axis CNC Lathe programs.
6. Ability to keep current with technology necessary to perform job more effectively as technology evolves.
7. Ability to read blueprints, job orders and specifications.
8. Ability to use various sophisticated measuring tools and devices.
9. Ability to grind and sharpen tools.
10. Full knowledge of carbide grades.
11. Ability to utilize high level shop mathematics including trigonometry.
12. *Also must be able to meet personal tool requirements.
