Express Employment Professionals is seeking an experienced Manual Lathe / CNC Machinist for a well-established precision manufacturing company in Cicero, IL. This is an outstanding opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys challenging, low-volume, high-mix work in a true job shop environment.
Unlike high-volume production facilities, this position focuses on custom components and prototype work, with many production runs consisting of 25 pieces or fewer. We're looking for machinists who can think critically, adapt to a variety of projects, and take pride in producing precision-machined parts.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Manual Lathes and CNC machine tools to manufacture precision components.
- Review, edit, and optimize CNC programs to ensure efficient and accurate machining.
- Perform machine setups, tool changes, and offset adjustments to maintain tight tolerances.
- Manufacture custom, prototype, and short-run production parts from engineering drawings.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, work orders, and machining specifications.
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Select appropriate tooling while determining proper speeds, feeds, and cutting strategies for a variety of materials.
- Operate overhead cranes to safely move large workpieces and materials throughout the shop.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to maintain quality and maximize efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-conscious work environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Manual Lathe Machinist, CNC Machinist, or combination of both.
- Previous experience in a job shop or custom manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience performing program edits and reviewing CNC programs.
- Ability to complete machine setups independently.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision machining practices.
- Experience machining custom, prototype, and low-volume production parts.
- Knowledge of tooling selection, speeds and feeds, and machining various materials.
- Experience operating overhead cranes.
- Proficient with precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators, and related inspection tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent attention to detail and quality.
