Job summary

gpac in partnership with a well established Springfield, IL manufacturing client is seeking several CNC Machinists for day, night and weekend shifts. The company has 50+ years in business and is growing.

Ideal candidates have 3–10+ years CNC machining experience and can set up and run multiple machines, read blueprints and GD&T, and perform offsets and basic program edits (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak). This fast-paced shop values precision and reliability.

Qualifications

  • 3–10+ years of CNC machining experience on mills, lathes, or multi-axis operations.
  • Able to set up and operate machines, not just follow prompts.
  • Read blueprints with GD&T to tolerance specs and adjustments.
  • Make offsets and basic program edits on Fanuc, Haas, Mazak controls.
  • Knowledge of tooling selection and cutting parameters; ensure quality.
  • Experience with first article inspections and in-process checks.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and run assigned CNC machines and verify parts meet spec.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T tolerances.
  • Make offsets and minor program edits as needed.
  • Select tooling and manage feeds, speeds for required cycles.
  • Troubleshoot issues, measure and inspect own work.
  • Maintain quality and drive continuous improvement in processes.

Job description

We are working with a client company near Springfield, IL seeking several CNC Machinists for day, night and weekend shifts. This company has been in business for over 50 years and is growing!

Ideal Background
  • 3-10+ years of CNC machining experience (mills, lathes, or multi-axis depending on shop)
  • Comfortable with setup and operation, not just button-pushing
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and tight tolerances
  • Experience making offsets and basic program edits (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of tooling selection and cutting parameters Experience with first article inspections and in-process quality checks
Technical Skillset
  • Micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges
  • Understanding of feeds & speeds, materials (steel, aluminum, stainless)
  • Fixture setup and part changeovers
  • Preventative machine maintenance basics
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure (nice to have)
Production Environment Traits
  • High attention to detail and quality mindset
  • Ability to run multiple machines (if applicable)
  • Consistent attendance and reliability
  • Team-oriented but able to work independently
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced job shop or medium-volume production environment
The Candidate Should Be Able To
  • Set up and run the machines they're assigned to
  • Read and understand blueprints
  • Understand basic GD&T and tolerances
  • Make their own offsets and adjustments
  • Select and manage tooling appropriately
  • Recognize when something isn't machining correctly and troubleshoot it
  • Measure and inspect their own work
  • Understand feeds, speeds and basic machining principles
  • Make minor program edits when necessary, but not be expected to program from scratch
  • Work independently without needing someone standing over them
Bonus Experience (Often Valuable)
  • CAD/CAM exposure (Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.)
  • Multi-axis machining (4th/5th axis)
  • Prototype + short-run experience
  • Troubleshooting scrap and improving cycle times
  • These traits would yield a higher hourly rate than advertised.
