Job summary

Ottenweller Company in Mount Airy, NC is seeking a Laser Operator assistant for 1st and 2nd shifts to support laser cutting operations. This role involves machine setup, material handling using forklift or overhead crane, and ensuring parts meet blueprints.

Responsibilities include unloading finished parts, moving materials per router, monitoring equipment, and assisting in first-piece and in-process inspections. Prior CNC exposure and basic math skills are beneficial for this full-time position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–6 months CNC machine operation experience preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence and present information to employees.

Responsibilities

• Assists Laser Operator in setup and general operation of laser cutting machines.
• Assist in setting up machines by loading material onto the worktable using forklift and/or overhead crane.
• Unload processed parts and part skeleton; place finished parts into baskets.
• Move material and parts to next operation as designated on router.
• Monitor machines and, with assistance, activate controls to cut the workpiece.
• Assist in inspecting first-piece and in-process parts by checking dimensions per blueprint using calipers and tape measure; inspect parts per C=0 chart; complete inspection forms if required.
• Assist in operating punch press machines as needed.
