Job summary

Ottenweller Company Inc. is seeking a skilled machinist to operate conventional, special-purpose, and CNC machines to fabricate metallic parts in Mount Airy, NC.

You will study blueprints, set up machines, select tools, and ensure first-piece and in-process inspections meet spec. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with 1–2 years of related experience; CNC programming/set-up experience is preferred and mechanical aptitude is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1–2 years related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and read basic measuring tools.
• Previous CNC programming and set up experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, manuals, specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
• Select programs or set up functions to create parts per blueprint.
• Measure dimensions with calipers, micrometers and reference tools.
• Set up and secure fixtures, tools, and materials on machines.
• Set controls for speed, feed, coolant flow and depth of cut.
• Run trials to verify machining accuracy.
• Operate CNC and manual machines; load/unload parts.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspection with calipers and gauges.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
