Job summary

LVI Associates in Southeast Michigan is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Lead to oversee CMT projects, mentor technicians, and serve as a technical resource for clients and project teams. This role combines engineering leadership with hands-on field work.

The successful candidate will advance the CMT department, manage projects from planning through delivery, review testing, report engineering recommendations, and coordinate with developers, contractors, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• 5+ years in Construction Materials Testing or related field such as geotechnical engineering or civil engineering consulting.
• Experience reviewing technical information and preparing engineering documentation.
• Strong knowledge of construction observation, testing procedures, and field operations.
• Experience leading projects and mentoring technical staff.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Construction Materials Testing projects from planning through delivery.
• Provide engineering oversight and technical review of field testing and inspection activities.
• Manage and mentor CMT technicians and junior staff.
• Support investigation and resolution of construction-related challenges on active project sites.
• Prepare and review technical reports, documentation, and engineering recommendations.
• Coordinate directly with developers, contractors, project managers, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Support resource planning and operational efficiency within the department.
• Contribute to the continued growth and development of the CMT practice.
