Job summary

Quartet ENG in Houston, TX seeks an Engineering Intern/Trainee to learn construction QA on active job sites and in the A2LA-accredited lab. You will perform soils, concrete, asphalt, and masonry tests alongside senior technicians and support managers with reporting and client communication.

Full-time trainees follow a structured path toward EIT, Texas PE, and a CMT Project Manager role, with mentorship from licensed engineers and hands-on experience across transport, public works, and commercial

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Construction Management, Construction Science, Civil Engineering, or related field; junior standing or higher.
• BS in CM/CS/CE or related field completed within the past 2 years; MS degree preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
• Willingness to work outdoors on construction sites in all weather; some early mornings, nights, or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform field density and moisture testing of soils and base with nuclear gauge and sand cone methods.
• Sample and test fresh concrete for slump, air content, temperature, and unit weight; manage cylinders/beams per ASTM.
• Observe reinforcing steel, formwork, pier installation, and asphalt placement under supervision.
• Conduct laboratory tests including Proctor, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, and compressive strength.
• Prepare daily field reports, test data sheets, and lab reports; input data into management system.
• Review results against project specs and flag non-conformances to project managers.
• Assist project managers with scheduling, setup, spec review, proposals, and client communication.
• Support laboratory quality tasks: calibration checks, proficiency testing, and accreditation records.
