Job summary

Crazy Mountain Ranch in Montana seeks a Lead Ice Fishing Guide for the winter season to manage and guide Rainbow Lake excursions, prepare sites, maintain gear, and ensure safe, educational guest experiences.

Housing available upon request; rent and deposit required. The role requires at least 2 years guiding ice fishing, CPR/First Aid, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work weekends and in cold conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of guiding or professional ice fishing experience.
• CPR and First Aid certification required; Wilderness First Aid preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work long hours outdoors in cold weather.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead guided ice fishing excursions for guests of all ages and experience levels.
• Monitor ice thickness and weather conditions to ensure guest safety.
• Prepare and maintain fishing shacks, holes, equipment, and site cleanliness.
• Teach guests proper ice fishing techniques, safety protocols, and fish handling.
• Collaborate with the Outdoor Pursuits Manager to coordinate gear inventory, supplies, and scheduling.
• Uphold environmental stewardship and Leave No Trace principles.
• Maintain snow removal around shelters and access points as necessary.
• Support other winter programming as needed.
• Comfortable working outdoors in freezing conditions for extended periods.

Position Summary

The Lead Ice Fishing Guide at Crazy Mountain Ranch is responsible for managing and guiding ice fishing excursions on Rainbow Lake. This position includes preparing fishing sites, maintaining gear, monitoring ice conditions, and delivering safe, educational, and high-quality guest experiences.

• Plan and lead guided ice fishing excursions for guests of all ages and experience levels.
• Monitor ice thickness and weather conditions to ensure guest safety at all times.
• Prepare and maintain fishing shacks, holes, equipment, and site cleanliness.
• Teach guests proper ice fishing techniques, safety protocols, and fish handling.
• Collaborate with the Outdoor Pursuits Manager to coordinate gear inventory, supplies, and scheduling.
• Uphold environmental stewardship practices and Leave No Trace principles on and around the ice.
• Maintain snow removal around shelters and access points as necessary.
• Support other winter programming as needed.
• Strong knowledge of ice fishing techniques, equipment, and fish species common to Montana.
• Familiarity with ice safety protocols, weather monitoring, and emergency response.
• Proficient in the use and maintenance of augers, heaters, sleds, and related tools.
• Comfortable working outdoors in freezing conditions for extended periods.
• Strong guest service, communication, and instructional skills.
• Ability to work independently or with a team in remote winter environments.
• Must be available on weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• This position involves long hours outdoors in extremely cold and variable weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, walk long distances on snow and ice, and perform physical labor such as drilling holes and clearing snow.
