Job summary

Camaco in Ohio is seeking a quality-focused professional to handle part layout, CMM programming, and dimensional reports from CMM data for the PPAP review process. This role includes sample parts, gage layouts, and final assembly recertification.

You will lead or support continuous improvement efforts, ensuring high-quality products reach customers and addressing concerns. The team-based department requires collaboration and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Requires reading/drawing interpretation and understanding of specifications.
  • Experience operating a CMM and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of SPC, GD&T, and blueprint reading is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PPAP processes and quality systems.
  • Ability to work in a team and support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform part layout and set-up checks using metrology instruments.
  • Develop gage instruction sheets and update as needed.
  • Run gage studies and capability studies.
  • Enter data from paper documents for record keeping.
  • Coordinate with Quality Manager to address issues and customer concerns.
  • Assist in development of Control Plans, FMEAs and 8D reports.
  • Train staff on procedures and job skills.
  • Ensure documentation is organized and traceable.

Job description

Purpose

Responsible for part layout, developing CMM programming and dimensional reports from CMM data for the PPAP (production part approval process) review program. This includes sample parts, gage layouts, and final assembly annual recertification. Lead and or support area in continuous improvement efforts. Ensure quality products are delivered to customers and address customer concerns and issues. The department is structured as a formal team and requires the ability to work within the team.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Part layout, CMM programming and PPAP’s.

  • Set-up and check dimensions on parts, using metrology instruments, to ensure parts meet quality standards and that dimensions are accurate.

  • Perform gage studies and capability studies.

  • Develop gage instruction sheets and update as needed.

  • Work on SPR (sample part requests) and assist technicians with set-ups.

  • Calibration of equipment gages.

  • Train employees in proper procedures and job skills.

  • Check, sort, and file paperwork.

  • Enter data into the computer from paper documents for record keeping purposes.

  • Interface with the Quality Manager to address quality issues.

  • Ability to act as liaison between the company and the customer.

  • Assist in the development of Control Plans, FMEA’s and 8D’s.

  • Continuous improvement activities support Red X / DOE activities.

  • Problem solving.

  • Various other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED.


Technical degree in a related field preferred.


Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.


Ability to read various measuring devices.


Experience operating a CMM.


Basic computer knowledge.



Competencies


  • CMM software and programming

  • Ability to follow established procedures

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Must be able to operate basic metrology instruments, optical comparator, hardness tester and Coordinate Measurement Machine.

  • Calibration of equipment gages.

  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC); stamping; GD&T with application and blueprint reading.

  • Knowledge of welding specifications

  • Problem Solving

  • Perform sorts, audits or rework products

  • Knowledge of product and processes

  • Knowledge of Quality standards – AIAG/ASQC, ASME, AITF16949

  • Communication skills to communicate and interact with all levels of employees, customers and suppliers

  • Computer skills and math skills sufficient to perform department related tasks as required

  • Ability to work effectively with people
