Job summary

The Iowa Clinic in Central Iowa is seeking CMA, LPN or RN to join our General Surgery team. This role supports surgical patients across clinic operations, with opportunities to assist physicians and provide compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Nurses must be licensed and able to provide care in General Surgery settings.
• Knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, medical diagnoses, and treatments.
• Exceptional patient skills.
• Ability to prepare and maintain records.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Ability to assist physicians in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Review charts, verify informed consent, and track laboratory results.
• Assess vital signs, log current medications, and verify surgical site readiness.
• Assist surgeons during minor in-office procedures and examinations.
• Execute wound care, perform dressing changes, and remove sutures.
• Apply aseptic techniques to instruments and setups.
• Schedule outpatient consultations and coordinate tests.
• Navigate EHR, log orders, and finalize insurance paperwork.
• Provide home-care instructions and follow-up guidance.
• Return patient calls and ensure patients feel valued.

A day in the life…

Wondering what a day in the life ofCMA, LPN or RNinGeneral Surgeryat The Iowa Clinic might look like?

• Review charts, verify informed consent, and track laboratory or diagnostic results.
• Assess vital signs, log current medications, and verify surgical site readiness.
• Assist surgeons during minor in-office surgical procedures and examinations.
• Execute wound care, perform dressing changes, and remove sutures.
• Apply strict aseptic and sterile techniques to medical instruments and procedural setups.
• Schedule outpatient consultations, coordinate diagnostic tests, and secure surgical dates.
• Navigate Electronic Health Records (EHR), log orders, and finalize insurance paperwork.
• Provide clear instructions to patients regarding home recovery, pain management, and follow-up care.
• Return patient calls and ensure all patients feel valued and cared for
• Leave in the evening – hooray for working standard clinic hours!

Provide additional coverage (rotating as needed) at our Waukee and Downtown Des Moines General Surgery locations

Required Licenses

• Active Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, or Certified Medical Assistance (CMA).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
