Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a clinical assistant to document patient visits, obtain vital signs, set up examination rooms, and assist providers during appointments. Travel may be required and all activities follow safety and privacy protocols.

The role includes direct patient care under supervision (EKGs, wound dressings, phlebotomy, and lab tests), plus administrative duties such as charting, scheduling, referrals, and co-pay collection to support efficient clinic operations.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents patient visit details, including reason for visit, weight, vital signs, and screening information.
• Sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
• Assists patients to prepare for visits and ensures safety and privacy.
• Provides direct patient care under provider direction, such as EKGs and wound dressings.
• Prepares and administers medications per policy after validation of knowledge and competency.
• Completes patient tests and treatments per provider order.
• Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and completes associated paperwork.
• Performs phlebotomy and supports lab functions.
• Performs receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and medical records.
• Documents in the medical record and uses EMR and scheduling system.
• Facilitates timely appointments, completes referrals and pre-authorizations as needed.
• Collects co-payments.
• Assists orientation of new personnel.
• Maintains infection prevention protocols and ensures room sterilization between patients.
