Job Summary:

Provides assistance with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a registered nurse or provider (physician or advanced practice provider).

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
  1. Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse. Performs select clinical duties.
  2. Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  3. Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.
  4. Performs basic materials management functions including ordering and stocking supplies. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
  5. Documents the provider's encounter with patients, listing diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions. Transcribes patient orders for tests and medications.
  6. Works in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • For Wisconsin only: High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience, plus graduation from an accredited school of medical assisting or equivalent certification.
Experience:
  • No experience required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech for communication.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying of objects 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use.
  • Frequent use of vision for near and far distances, and color identification.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive movements.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients and objects 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of smell and driving.
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications:

Valid in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Or other recognized medical assistant certifications listed in the original description.
