Job description

Join to apply for the Cloud Solutions Architect - Alliances role at Canonical.

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include top public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders across sectors. We are a pioneer in global distributed collaboration, with 1000+ colleagues in 70+ countries, and few roles based in offices. Teams meet in person 2-4 times annually in interesting locations worldwide to align on strategy and execution.

We are a founder-led, profitable, and growing company. We are hiring a Cloud Solutions Architect in our Alliances team to help our major partners (like Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, Tata) understand and adopt our open source platform for their own use and their customers.

Our worldwide field engineering team applies expert insights to real-world customer problems, enabling enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps, and related technologies. We are experts in the open source stack, from kernel to desktop, cloud to edge. We also focus on business challenges—building reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions—and learn to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

We assist global companies in adopting public/private cloud infrastructure, cloud-native operations, and open source applications. For this team, we seek several Alliances Engineers to support OEMs, GSIs, ISVs, channel partners, and public cloud alliances. You will support various alliances in adopting our products and technologies, and help define joint go-to-market strategies from a technical perspective.

Our field engineers face the challenging task of addressing any customer question about our solutions thoughtfully and knowledgeably. We prioritize doing what’s best for our partners and customers, trusting our engineers to uphold this commitment.

Location: This is a home-based role, open worldwide.

What your day will look like
  • Understand Ubuntu, Linux, networking, and services in real-world environments
  • Architect cloud infrastructure solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark in On-Premises or Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Design and integrate open source software such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Cassandra, and NGINX
  • Assist partners in offering and architecting joint solutions using Canonical's technologies on public clouds and data centers
  • Develop and publish joint Reference Architectures and perform technical validations with partners
  • Conduct onboarding sessions and workshops to promote Canonical products and solutions

If you are passionate about open source technologies, cloud-native development, data center tech like Kubernetes, and networking, you'll love this role at Canonical.

What we are looking for in you
  • Extensive experience with Linux (Ubuntu preferred), Kubernetes, Ceph, and software automation
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions on public/private clouds
  • Proficiency in Python and bash, troubleshooting skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • High motivation, multi-tasking ability, reliable follow-up
  • Interest in customer-facing engagement—pitching, demonstrating, understanding customer needs
  • Interest in new tech like LXD, Juju, and Snaps
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% globally
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field

What we offer

  • Distributed work environment with biannual in-person team sprints—remote since 2004
  • USD 2,000 annual learning and development budget
  • Annual compensation review
  • Recognition rewards, holiday leave, maternity/paternity leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Travel opportunities to meet colleagues
  • Travel upgrades for company events
