Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

The Cloud Services Administrator is responsible for the administration, security, optimization, and continuous improvement of the College's cloud-based technology services, identity platforms, collaboration systems, and related digital infrastructure.

The position serves as the primary service owner for the College's cloud productivity and identity environment, including Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, identity and access management, cloud file services, endpoint management platforms, and related technologies.

The Cloud Services Administrator works collaboratively with the Infrastructure & Security Administrator, Director of Application Services, Campus Technology Specialists, and Chief Information Officer to provide secure, reliable, and effective technology services that support teaching, learning, and institutional operations.

This position is expected to take an active role in modernization, automation, documentation, professional development, and the ongoing transition from traditional on-premises systems to cloud-based services.

Technology services operate beyond traditional business hours. This position will participate in scheduled maintenance, system upgrades, emergency response, or service restoration outside normal operating hours in accordance with College policies and applicable employment requirements.

The position is expected to maintain sufficient cross-training and documentation to support continuity of critical College services.

This position will have access to and encounter confidential information. Strict confidentiality must be maintained and shared only on a need-to-know basis. Further, confidential information must only be accessed on an as-needed basis.

This position is expected to participate in an on-call rotation to provide coverage to the College outside of normal business hours.

II.Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Service Responsibilities
  • Microsoft 365 and Microsoft cloud services
  • Identity and Access Management (Cloud and on-prem)
  • Single Sign-On and Multi-Factor Authentication
  • User and account lifecycle management
  • Cloud-based file and collaboration services
  • Endpoint management platforms
  • Cloud synchronization services
  • Remaining Windows server services associated with identity, print, file, or cloud integration
  • Cloud service licensing and administration
  • Automation of administrative and provisioning processes
  • Cloud backup and recovery services, where applicable
  • Provide confidential information for bargaining unit contract negotiations
  • Management of student interns
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Google Workspace for Education, including organizational units, groups, applications, security settings, storage, sharing policies, and administrative roles.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services and licensing provided to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Evaluate and implement cloud service configuration changes in accordance with institutional needs, security requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Monitor cloud service health, capacity, licensing, usage, and administrative alerts.
  • Maintain appropriate administrative separation, least-privilege access, and delegated administration within cloud environments.
  • Identify opportunities to replace legacy on-premises services with secure and sustainable cloud-based alternatives.
Identity and Access Management
  • Administer Active Directory and Microsoft Entra and associated identity services.
  • Manage account provisioning, modification, suspension, and deprovisioning processes.
  • Administer Single Sign-On, Multi-Factor Authentication, authentication policies, and related identity technologies.
  • Develop and maintain secure identity lifecycle processes in coordination with Human Resources, Student Services, Application Services, and other institutional stakeholders.
  • Maintain role-based access and group structures that support efficient and secure access to institutional resources.
  • Assist with integration of institutional applications with identity providers and authentication services.
  • Regularly review privileged accounts, administrative permissions, inactive accounts, and other identity-related risks.
Cloud File and Collaboration Services
  • Lead the migration and ongoing administration of cloud-based file and collaboration services.
  • Plan and execute migration of appropriate on-premises file services to Google Shared Drives or other approved cloud platforms.
  • Establish appropriate structures for permissions, ownership, retention, sharing, and lifecycle management.
  • Work with departments to improve collaboration practices and reduce dependence on legacy network file shares.
  • Develop user guidance and technical documentation for cloud collaboration services.
Endpoint and Device Management
  • Serve as the technical owner or co-owner of centralized endpoint management technologies.
  • Develop standards for device configuration, security baselines, software deployment, patching, and policy enforcement.
  • Work closely with Campus Technology Specialists on endpoint provisioning, deployment, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
  • Automate repetitive endpoint and administrative processes when practical.
  • Support secure configuration and management of Windows, Mac OS, and other institutionally supported platforms.
Security Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain security controls within Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra, identity platforms, and endpoint management systems.
  • Work jointly with the Infrastructure & Security Administrator to implement the College's cybersecurity program.
  • Monitor authentication and cloud security alerts and respond appropriately to suspected incidents.
  • Support vulnerability remediation, endpoint security, account security, and configuration management activities.
  • Participate in cybersecurity incident response and recovery activities.
  • Implement security recommendations, standards, and corrective actions approved by the CIO.
  • Maintain security-related documentation for assigned services.
Automation and Systems Integration
  • Identify opportunities to automate account management, provisioning, reporting, configuration, and routine administrative activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and document scripts and automated workflows using appropriate technologies.
  • Work with the Director of Application Services to support automated provisioning and integration between enterprise applications and identity platforms.
  • Reduce manual processes and improve consistency through appropriate use of APIs, scripting, and workflow automation.
Service Management and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation for all assigned services.
  • Document configurations, dependencies, administrative procedures, recovery procedures, service contacts, and escalation processes.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures sufficient to allow another IT staff member to provide essential service coverage.
  • Serve as primary owner for assigned services while ensuring identified secondary personnel are cross-trained.
  • Participate in service reviews, change management, incident reviews, and technology planning.
  • Maintain appropriate vendor support relationships and technical contacts.
Projects and Continuous Improvement
  • Lead cloud, identity, endpoint, and modernization projects assigned by the CIO.
  • Develop project plans, milestones, implementation schedules, testing procedures, and documentation.
  • Recommend improvements based on changes in technology, institutional needs, security requirements, and industry practices.
  • Proactively identify aging, inefficient, insecure, or redundant systems and recommend improvements.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies that may benefit College operations.
Professional Development
  • Maintain current knowledge of cloud computing, identity management, endpoint management, cybersecurity, and related technologies.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development appropriate to assigned responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain relevant technical competencies through training, certification, conferences, vendor education, self-study, or other approved professional development activities.
  • Share newly acquired knowledge with other members of the Information Technology team.
Team Responsibilities
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the Information Technology department.
  • Provide escalation assistance to Campus Technology Specialists when needed.
  • Cross-train other IT staff in assigned service areas.
  • Participate in major technology implementations and institutional projects.
  • Provide technical consultation to the CIO and other IT staff.
  • Assist with emergency response, maintenance activities, and service restoration as required.
  • Perform other technology-related duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
III.Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a related field and significant relevant professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience administering enterprise identity, directory, cloud productivity, or endpoint management technologies.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows environments and directory services.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to document technical systems and procedures.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and complete assigned projects.
  • Ability and willingness to continually learn new technologies and adapt to changes in the College's technology environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or related field.
  • Experience administering Google Workspace for Education.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Entra, cloud identity, Single Sign-On, and Multi-Factor Authentication.
  • Experience with endpoint management technologies.
  • Experience with scripting or automation technologies such as ChatGPT, PowerShell, Google Apps Script, APIs, or similar tools.
  • Experience migrating file services or other workloads to cloud environments.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Relevant professional certifications in CompTIA, Google, Microsoft, cloud administration, identity, endpoint management, or cybersecurity are preferred.
