MANTECH is hiring a Cloud Security Engineer to strengthen cloud incident response across AWS environments in Herndon, VA. Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in cloud security or cyber operations.
  • 7+ years of experience with operating systems, network infrastructure, security principles, or system architecture.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience coding and scripting in Python or similar languages.

Responsibilities

  • Systems Design & Architecture: Design, deploy, and optimize cloud security monitoring systems at an enterprise scale in alignment with security policies and compliance standards.
  • Development and Scripting: Create, maintain, and optimize Python-based scripts and automation tools for security monitoring, detection, and response.
  • Automation and Orchestration: Develop automated incident response playbooks and workflows for CSOC operations.
  • Collaboration and Mentorship: Mentor junior staff, lead cyber exercises, and develop training materials for cloud security and incident response.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with cybersecurity trends and AI applications relevant to cloud security and incident response.
  • Splunk Detection Development: Design and tune detection rules for AWS and other clouds using Splunk Query Language.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Security Engineer to join MANTECH's cybersecurity team in Herndon, VA. This role is pivotal in strengthening the organization’s cloud incident response capabilities and ensuring robust security measures across cloud environments, primarily focusing on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The successful candidate will work closely with cybersecurity experts and operational teams to design, implement, and refine cloud security monitoring systems. You will leverage your expertise in cloud security, scripting, automation, and security information and event management (SIEM) tools to develop proactive defense mechanisms and streamline incident response processes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to mission‑critical security operations and to stay at the forefront of cybersecurity innovations in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cybersecurity, cloud security, and scripting, with a focus on AWS environments. Relevant experience includes:

  • 7 or more years of experience in cloud security or cyber operations
  • 7 or more years of experience with operating systems, network infrastructure, security principles, or system architecture
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on experience with AWS cloud services
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience coding and scripting in Python or similar languages

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with experience in automation platforms, incident response, threat hunting, or detection engineering. Additional certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, or CEH are highly desirable. Familiarity with other cloud platforms like Azure or OCI is a plus, as is experience with automation and SOAR platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Systems Design & Architecture: Provide expert consultation on the design, architecture, and deployment of cloud security monitoring systems at an enterprise scale, ensuring alignment with organizational security policies and compliance standards.
  • Development and Scripting: Create, maintain, and optimize scripts and automation tools using Python or similar languages to enhance security monitoring, detection, and response capabilities.
  • Automation and Orchestration: Develop automated incident response playbooks and workflows to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of cybersecurity operations within the CSOC environment.
  • Collaboration and Mentorship: Work collaboratively with team members to share insights, coordinate incident response efforts, and provide technical mentorship to junior staff. Lead cyber exercises and drills to enhance team preparedness and develop training materials for cloud security and incident response.
  • Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends, emerging threats, and technological advancements. Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement best practices to strengthen security posture. Maintain current knowledge of AI applications relevant to cloud security and incident response.
  • Splunk Detection Development: Design, tune, and optimize detection rules for AWS and other cloud platforms using Splunk Query Language, ensuring high accuracy and low false‑positive rates in threat detection.
