Job summary

Vultr seeks a PHP Software Engineer to build and maintain backend services powering its cloud platform. You will work on high-traffic PHP applications, optimize MySQL schemas, and implement RESTful APIs with modern standards.

You will collaborate with distributed teams and embrace OpenAPI, Redis, and messaging systems to ensure scalable infrastructure. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of PHP experience, proficiency with Laravel/Symfony, and hands-on Docker/Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience with PHP 8+ and frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, or Slim.
• Expertise in MySQL including query optimization and schema design for high-traffic apps.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs using modern standards (OpenAPI).
• Experience with Redis for caching, distributed locking, queues, and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with message queues and asynchronous processing systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS, Redis Streams).
• Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes; experience with cloud platforms (Vultr, AWS, GCP, Azure) and infra-as-code tooling.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Git-based workflows.
• Excellent communication and ability to collaborate across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance PHP applications serving millions of API requests daily.
• Design and optimize MySQL schemas, queries, and indexing for performance and reliability.
• Implement and maintain RESTful APIs following OpenAPI standards and versioning best practices.
• Design and implement asynchronous workflows, background jobs, queues, and event-driven integrations.
