Job summary

U.S. Bank in Minnesota seeks a Senior Software Architecture Leader to define the architecture strategy for payment platforms, driving modernization from mainframe to cloud-native microservices and mentoring engineers toward engineering excellence.

You will partner with Product, Security, Operations, and Risk to deliver scalable, compliant solutions, lead multiple Agile teams, shape API design and observability, and champion DevSecOps and CI/CD across cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Six to eight years of relevant technical experience.
• Five or more years of leading a software engineering team.
• Engineering leadership experience managing technical teams.
• Experience leading architecture, engineering strategy, and large-scale technology delivery initiatives.
• Strong experience delivering complex enterprise applications in Agile environments.
• Experience with credit card processing, payments, transaction processing, authorization, clearing, settlement, or issuer platforms.
• Mainframe modernization experience, including migration of legacy applications to cloud-native solutions.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and cloud migration strategies.
• Experience with microservices architecture, API design, event-driven systems, and distributed applications.
• Strong knowledge of Agile, Scrum, SAFe, engineering delivery practices, and technology transformation programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor software engineers and architects toward engineering excellence.
• Define architecture strategy, roadmaps, and modernization initiatives.
• Drive legacy/mainframe modernization to cloud-native, microservices architectures.
• Establish architecture standards, governance, and solution review processes.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, Security, Operations, and Risk teams to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.
• Lead multiple Agile Scrum teams to deliver business value.
• Guide solution architecture decisions, API strategies, integration patterns, observability, and reliability engineering practices.
• Champion DevSecOps, CI/CD automation, cloud adoption, and engineering operational excellence.
• Manage technical risks, platform resiliency, security requirements, and regulatory compliance for payment systems.
• Influence cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership on technology investments, modernization strategies, and architectural direction.
