Job summary

NISC in Cedar Rapids, IA, is seeking a Cloud Networking Engineer to join the Platform & Infrastructure division. You will help design and maintain resilient, secure network solutions and support day-to-day operations to keep members’ services running smoothly.

You will lead efforts on low-latency distributed systems, cloud topology, and containerized networks, while mentoring teammates and driving best practices across the team.

Qualifications

• 1-5 years of related experience in networking, cloud infrastructure, systems administration, software development, or a related technical field.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP, NTP, OSPF, BGP, VPNs, and network security fundamentals.
• Experience with or exposure to networking platforms such as Palo Alto, SonicWall, Arista, Extreme networks, or similar technologies.
• Linux administration and scripting experience (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
• Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible or similar infra automation tools.
• Knowledge of public cloud concepts, preferably AWS.
• Containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of HA, load balancing, DR concepts; monitoring and observability basics.

Responsibilities

• Build KPI dashboards tracking networking and application SLAs.
• Lead design and development of low-latency infrastructure for distributed systems.
• Lead hybrid cloud network topology design and build using best practices.
• Lead design and build of containerized network topologies.
• Manage vendor relationships and drive internet connectivity strategy.
• Advise on vulnerability practices and oversee resolution.
• Design and automate network patching per Vulnerability Management Policy.
• Develop maintenance plans and coordinate cross-team impacts.
• Maintain documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base.
• Own cost-control budget for public cloud usage.
• Leverage generative AI tools to boost productivity and problem-solving.
• Participate in on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance.
• Mentor other team members.
