Job summary

IBM is seeking a Back‑End Software Engineering Intern for the NetTools Network Automation team in Dallas, TX. You will contribute to production‑grade Python microservices and automation pipelines that underpin IBM Cloud's network infrastructure, including Day‑0 and Day‑2 workflows.

Preferred candidates have Python back‑end experience, REST API familiarity, and exposure to Docker/Kubernetes. This is a hybrid internship with collaboration across NetTools, Network Engineering, and Data Center

Qualifications

• Back-end development in Python: writing Python services or scripts and REST API consumption/design.
• Version control with Git and collaborative workflows (pull requests, reviews).
• Containerization fundamentals: Docker, containerized workloads and deployment considerations.
• Understanding REST APIs, HTTP concepts, and API design principles.
• Automated testing: unit/integration tests and test coverage importance in production.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Axon/NCS: develop back-end Python microservices for Day-0/Day-2 workflows.
• Build and improve automated test coverage and regression tests for the platform.
• Support interfaces between NCS/Axon and SSOT/Hivemind data platforms (NetBox, CockroachDB).
• Refactor tightly coupled components and improve Docker configurations; write runbooks and onboarding docs.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, track work in Jira, and engage with cross-functional teams.
