Job summary

Cisco is seeking a senior software engineer to build secure, cloud-native networking and simulation platforms powering domain-specific large language models. You will partner with AI research, security, product, and infrastructure teams to architect high-fidelity topologies using Cisco Modeling Labs and drive secure automation across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with 8+ years of related experience, OR Master's in STEM with 6+ years, OR PhD with 3+ years (or equivalent).
• 5+ years of professional software engineering designing and testing production-grade software.
• Experience with Python, Go, C++, or Java.
• 4+ years of enterprise/datacenter networking protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, EVPN, VXLAN.
• 3+ years cloud-native infra, distributed systems, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• 3+ years integrating/automating network controllers, SDN platforms via REST APIs/SDKs.

Responsibilities

• Build secure, cloud-native networking and simulation platforms.
• Partner across AI research, security, product, and infra engineering.
• Architect high-fidelity, secure network topologies using CML.
• Establish data contracts and validation pipelines for data provenance.
• Lead secure automation of Cisco controllers across on-prem, hybrid, cloud.
• Design, build, test high-performance distributed software.
• Set standards for network programmability, cloud architecture, and workflows.
• Apply zero-trust, RBAC/IAM and secrets management.
• Implement telemetry and monitoring for simulation and cloud infra.
• Drive postmortems and root-cause analyses into preventive controls.
• Mentor peers through design reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Shape engineering roadmap and communicate trade-offs.
