Job summary

Portal Space Systems, headquartered in Bothell, WA, is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own architecture of Azure-based infrastructure, with a focus on managed services, cloud-native patterns, and a simple on-prem VMware footprint. The role requires balancing cloud modernization with a secure, compliant IT environment.

You will lead backup/DR engineering, automate with IaC, and serve as the escalation point for infrastructure incidents.

Qualifications

5+ years in infrastructure, systems, or network engineering with Azure IaaS/PaaS and VMware experience.
2+ years of backup and disaster recovery engineering (Veeam or similar).
Hands-on with Entra ID and Microsoft 365/ Azure governance.
Experience with enterprise networking and Fortinet/Firewall management.
Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform/Bicep/Ansible).
Experience in ITAR/compliance environments and on-call support.

Responsibilities

Design cloud-native Azure solutions using managed services, PaaS, serverless, and avoid unnecessary VM lift-and-shift.
Evaluate and modernize infrastructure to reduce operational burden and improve resilience.
Maintain on-premises VMware cluster and simple, current setup while expanding cloud capabilities.
Scale infrastructure cost-effectively to support rapid business growth.
Be ready to extend infrastructure to edge computing if needed.
