Job summary

ByteDance in San Jose is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to design and build distributed NoSQL database products that support our global infrastructure.

You will work on high-performance, scalable storage and compute engines in a cloud-native environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve stability, performance and cost efficiency. A BS or higher in CS and 3+ years in system or database internals is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in one or more programming languages with strong Linux skills.
• Deep understanding of database principles and distributed systems.
• Experience with large-scale cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop distributed NoSQL databases, with focus areas such as caches, key-value stores, document stores, graph databases, or search engines.
• Build high-performance, low-latency distributed systems for mission-critical operations.
• Optimize compute and storage engines for cloud-native global deployments.
• Provide guidance to internal teams for system optimization and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust database products.
• Address challenges in cloud service architectures for large-scale systems.
